A chilly walk into the office, a glance to side revealed a plaque that made me laugh. What did happen in 1897

• Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula went on sale in London.
Grant’s Tomb is dedicated in New York.
Mark Twain, responding to rumors that he is dead, is quoted by the New York Journal as saying, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.”
