A chilly walk into the office, a glance to side revealed a plaque that made me laugh. What did happen in 1897
• Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula went on sale in London.
• Grant’s Tomb is dedicated in New York.
• Mark Twain, responding to rumors that he is dead, is quoted by the New York Journal as saying, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.”
